  • Energy Savings Tips[toggle title=”Appliances and Electronics”] If you live in a typical U.S. home, your appliances and home electronics are responsible for about 20 percent of your energy bills. These appliances and electronics include everything from clothes washers and dryers, to computers, to water heaters. By shopping for appliances with the ENERGY STAR® label and turning off appliances when they’re not in use, you can achieve real savings in your monthly energy bill. Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher’s drying cycle. Always look for the ENERGY STAR® and EnergyGuide labels when shopping for home appliances. The ENERGY STAR® label is the government’s seal of energy efficiency. TheEnergyGuide label estimates an appliance’s energy consumption. Clean the lint filter in the dryer after every load to improve air circulation. Consider air-drying clothes on clothes lines or drying racks. Air-drying is recommended by clothing manufacturers for some fabrics. Consider buying a laptop for your next computer upgrade; they use much less energy than desktop computers. Don’t over-dry your clothes. If your machine has a moisture sensor, use it. Dry towels and heavier cottons in a separate load from lighter-weight clothes. ENERGY STAR® computers and monitors save energy only when the power management features are activated, so make sure power…
  • Homeowner TipsHomeowner Tips To protect your investment in your home, it’s important to perform regular maintenance. The following tips not only help you to prevent costly repairs in the future, but can also make your home more efficient, saving you money on your monthly utility bills. Inspect the exterior of your home annually: Check the foundation for cracking. Check the weather stripping and caulking around doors and windows, and check for cracks and holes in the siding. Check the paint for peeling, cracking, fading or blistering. Trim shrubs and trees so they clear the foundation, exterior walls, and roof. Drain and shut off your outside faucets before winter. Clean gutters and downspouts in the fall and spring. Clean leaves and mulch from under porches and decks, and pull mulch away from foundation walls. Check annually for water or moisture in the crawl space and in the attic. Check the filters on your heating/cooling unit once a month and change or clean on the recommended schedule. Have the unit serviced annually. Check faucets for drips and the rest of the plumbing for leaks once a month. Check your dryer vent and stove hood monthly and clean them as needed. • VisionVision Blackstead Building Company has been building homes in the Treasure Valley for more than 20 years. Though many things have changed during this time, and many fads have come and gone, our commitment to our customers has stood the test of time. Blackstead Building Company has never desired to be the biggest builder in the Treasure Valley, just the best. As our industry has evolved, we have evolved with it. We’ve always built to a higher standard than the “code”.  And starting in 2010, we made the change to be a 100% Energy Star Builder. This means that all of our homes are at least 30% more efficient than “code” built homes. In addition, we also participate in the NAHB Green Building Program. This program ensures home buyers that they are buying a home that had both efficiency and the environment in mind as we built it. As our industry continues to evolve and change over time, we will change with it. The one thing that will never change is our commitment to our customers.
  • HistoryHistory Blackstead Building Company has been building homes in the Treasure Valley since 1986. From our humble beginning when we only built a few homes a year, to the boom when we build 100 homes a year, Rod Blackstead, the president of Blackstead Building Company, has never forgot that the customer comes first. In fact, it’s his “Customer First” attitude that drives him to build the best home he can. While many builders are constantly changing their subcontractors, and regularly using the lowest bidder, Blackstead Building Company has maintained a great relationship with many of the same subcontractors for many years. In fact, our plumber and electrician have been with us since our very first house. This consistency and our great relationships with our subcontractors help to ensure a very high degree of quality on each and every house we build. From our smallest patio home, to our largest custom home, every home we build is built using only the very best subcontractors in the Treasure Valley. What about service after the sale? While many builders claim to have excellent service after the sale, Blackstead Building Company proves it everyday. With an extensive warranty program, dedicated staff, and great subcontractors, IF…
